Thank you for your patience and understanding during this unfortunate time. Now that we have received official guidance from the OHSAA and Governor DeWine, I can release the most factual, up to date information to you. Following the directive of the Governor, all athletic events including practices, scrimmages, games, work-outs/conditioning sessions, open gyms, meetings, fund raisers and any other athletic related activity is cancelled from today until APRIL 5TH. No activities can be held on or off school district property. Athletes can individually train on their own at home if they choose, but no team activities can take place. Remember, the purpose of this is social distancing. We do not want people gathering in groups. This is for the health and safety of all.
As of TODAY, practices and activities can resume on Monday, April 6th. There is a mandatory acclimatization period from April 6th through 10th where no games or scrimmages can be held…practices only. Games can begin on 4/11. For now, all games and scrimmages will be cancelled until 4/11. Our priority will be to play conference games first and then play non-conference games if able. Expect with the shortened season, that the number of competitions will unfortunately be lowered as well. Let’s hope that we get through all of this healthfully and then the weather cooperates!
It is also VERY important for you and your athlete to understand OHSAA rules. They CANNOT practice, scrimmage or attend any workout, practices, training sessions with non-school teams in the SAME sport. If they do, they become automatically INELIGIBLE to play by OHSAA standards.
Please note: Since the current situation is rapidly changing, any of these rules and guidelines may need to be adjusted. IF they are, notification will go out immediately. As we near April 6th, I am sure our Governor and governing body of Ohio high school sports ,OHSAA will keep us updated if any of these dates and rules need to be adjusted,
Also a message from OHSAA for winter sports still competing…(Wrestling for PSH)
For Winter Sports still competing in OHSAA Regional and State Boys Basketball, State Girls Basketball, State Ice Hockey and State Individual Wrestling Tournaments
As announced Thursday, the above-mentioned tournaments are postponed indefinitely. Given the rapidly changing events nationally and statewide, we are assessing the situation daily. It is impossible to make a determination today . . . the reason for continuing them to be ‘postponed.’ If your team remains in the tournament, you need to remind them that the “non-interscholastic rule” remains in effect. Further, we have implemented indefinitely a no-contact period, which prohibits any coach, paid or volunteer, approved by the Board of Education to provide coaching, instruction or supervising conditioning and physical fitness programs or open gyms to members of a school team in their sports. Again, we are assessing this daily and we WILL keep you up-to-date on a regular basis.
Expect further communication from either myself or from your head coach with any updates and changes.
Mr. Ryan Madison
