The Lady Redmen (6-5, 3-3) traveled to Fairview Park to take on the Warriors in a GLC Matchup on Saturday afternoon. The Redmen got off to a hot start with some early steals and easy baskets by Fr. Guard, Mahogany Cottingham to start the game. Sr. Forward, Grace Jacobs had a nice left handed finish in the paint and a pair of free throws in the first quarter and a three pointer by Jr. Guard, Julia Basinger put the Redmen ahead 15-4 before Fairview found some life on offense behind Lizzy Williams (who led Fairview in scoring with a big game of 32 points) scoring the final 9 points of the quarter and cutting the Redmen lead to 15-13 heading into the second quarter.
The Redmen had a big second quarter pouring in 24 points in the quarter, Cottingham found her rhythm scoring 14 of her 37 points in the second quarter again off of several steals and her ability to penetrate and get to the rim in the half court. Jr. Guard, Madison Nyiran, had a big second quarter herself off the bench going 3/3 from the three point line in the second quarter to extend the Redmen lead to 10 going into half 39-29.
After a high scoring first half the Redmen struggled to score in the third quarter and Fairview was able to fight back into the game cutting the Redmen lead to 45-40 before Cottingham hit a running three at the buzzer to end the third quarter and put the Redmen up 48-40 going into the fourth.
The Redmen wouldn’t be denied the win, Cottingham continued to be aggressive and got to the free throw line making 6 free throws in the fourth quarter and capping off the night with a three pointer for her 37th point of the game and ending the scoring for the Redmen and ending her night with her third double double with 37 points and 10 steals. Jacobs added another 4 points in the fourth quarter off a couple of really nice finishes, including a spin move back to her left hand and she finished the game with a double double of 12 points and 10 rebounds. Sr. Forward, Sam Zanin, had a nice second half scoring all 8 of her points in the second half including 7 points in the 4th quarter. The Redmen ended the game with their bench and secured a 74-55 GLC win, extending their win streak to 4 games all of which have been games where the Redmen have scored in the 70’s.

The Redmen JV team also picked up a win beating the Warriors 40-24. Fr. Forward, Alyssa Lavy was the leading scorer for the JV team with 13 points. Madison Nyiran added 11 points in 2 quarters of the JV game including the first 8 points of the game and Fr. Guard, Katie Yeager added 7 points for the JV team in the win.
The Redmen will be back in action this Wednesday, January 8, 2020 as they take on the GLC leading Elyria Catholic Panthers at the JV and Varsity levels. The Freshmen will play host to Avon Lake in a non-conference matchup. Freshmen tip at 4:30PM with JV at 6:00PM and Varsity to follow around 7:30PM.
