The Redmen (1-1) knock off the Bearcats (1-1) in dominating fashion. The Redmen got off to a hot start opening up a 13-3 lead over Bedford in the first quarter. A couple of late baskets from Bedford pulled them to a 13-7 deficit at the end of the first quarter. The second quarter was a back and forth affair that led to the Redmen taking a 28-21 lead into the half after a buzzer beating layup by Bedford.

The Redmen came out focused in the second half going on a 31-9 run to start the second half. Freshmen Guard, Mahogany Cottingham got going in the second half who had 5 steals and scored 11 of her 15 points in the second half. Cottingham and Senior Forward, Sam Zanin, combined for 14 points in the third quarter which took the Redmen into the fourth quarter with a 45-27 lead.

A more focused effort on defense and on the boards helped the Redmen extend their lead to 59-30 before Coach Caldwell went to the bench for the final 2:38. The Bearcats didn’t give up and were able to force some late turnovers and score the last five points of the game for a final score of 59-35 for a Redmen Winner!

Leading the way for the Redmen was Senior Forward, Sam Zanin, with 16pts and 4 of 5 from the three point line. Freshmen Guard, Mahogany Cottingham, had another solid performance despite some early foul trouble to put in 15pts and added 6 steals, 5 rebounds, and 3 assists to her stat line. Senior Forward, Grace Jacobs, who missed the first game of the season put together a solid performance and added 10 points with 6 rebounds and 5 steals. Junior Guards, Amaris DeJesus and Julia Basinger added 7pts and 8pts respectively.

The JV Squad opened up their season this evening with a 50-38 win over Bedford. A big performance from Freshmen Center, Lea Holmes, who poured in 27pts in her first high school action. Sophomore Guard, Juliana Kern added 10pts in the JV win.

The Redmen have an extended break for the Thanksgiving holiday and will not be back in action until Wednesday, December 4, 2019 when they travel to Bay Village to take on the Rockets at 6:00PM and 7:30PM. The Freshmen girls will play at Bay Village the following evening, December 5, 2019.
